HALLANDALE BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Horse owners were left scrambling after the stables at Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino flooded overnight.
The Hallandale Beach racetrack experienced heavy rainfall in a short period of time, Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the area received 12.8 inches of rain.

“I have never seen anything like this,” said Deborah Flanigan, a horse owner. “I’m horrified.”

Several horses were being led away from the floods.
“They just went in there and thank God because the horses were out of water,” said Flanigan. “They would become dehydrated.”
Horse owners said they are just happy to know that their horses are going to be just fine.
“They got in around 4:30 in the morning, and that’s when it started to flood,” said Luis Luna, a horse owner.
Flanigan and Luna own four horses at the track. They were concerned that their horses would become sick or hurt themselves because of the flooded stalls.

“I don’t know what to do right now with the stand, because the horse have water almost to the knee,” said Luna. “I cannot even walk around there. I deeply worry about it, because they can get an infection if they have a cut. It’s a little tough for them, which I have to come back later on and see how I can take it out.”
A representative with the racetrack said none of the animals or their caretakers were injured.

“I just feel so bad for the animals,” said Flanigan.
Luna said he hopes the water levels continue to go down so his horse can stay in the stable.
According to a representative with the track, all the horses were given fresh bed lining and fresh feed following the flood.
